TORINO SMART FESTIVAL- “VISIBLE CITIES”- Lingotto Fiere

On June 4,5 of 2012, in occasion of Torino smart festival –“Visible Cities”, organized at th Lingotto fiere, it was treated the Feed on landscape project, that establish the approaching event of “Torino 2016 IFLA World Congress” (International Federation of LandscapeArchitects World Congress).
During the technical sessions of discussion of the tematical areas in preparation for the big event of 2016, scheduled for Monday 4 from 10:00 am to 1pm, Maurizio Ori e Francesca Neonato, vice presidents AIAPP Lombardia, they presented a relation concerning “qualitative landscape: instrument for the active protection” that resume two urgent issues and deeply connected each other, like the food emergency and the necessity of beauty, they were treated in the record signed by AIAPP and Slow Food.
Through the analysis of the tree Italian “virtuous” landscapes, connected to the production of tipical  aliments (in specific the almond orchards of Noto Valley, the Bitto of Valtellina and the citrus of Gargano), it demonstrated how the preservation of the economic value of production systems rooted in the territory at the local level can ensure effective protection of landscape, the perpetuation of traditions and flavors and the promotion of responsible tourism linked to the environmental quality.
If this operation could be easy in the present of passages characterized yet by excellent food, the challenge is to identify mechanisms to counteract the degradation of landscapes less connotations and cultivated according to systems of production and mass consumption (industrialized monocultures), such as the " cereal steppes " of the Po Valley urban or rural landscapes. In these scenarios it performs the role of mediator and facilitator Landscaper which complex processes that involve simultaneously planning instruments, programming agricultural systems of constraints and safeguards and take into account the economic, social and cultural rights.

During the event, was presented the Memorandum of Understanding signed between AIAPP and Slow Food last year, aimed at the definition and identification of "Landscapes of quality", understood as examples of places where an excellent agri-food is produced in a landscape environmental protected and supported by a local community can sustainably manage the resources of the area in which he lives and works. This lens also shows the proposed topics from Milan Expo 2015 , referring precisely to production systems

Conference AIAPP - Landscape in progress 2-
Landscapes, new projects, agriculture and society

On March 24 of 2012 Maurizio Ori, Landscape Designer and Architect, Vice President AIAPP Lombardia, participated in the conference AIAPP "Landscapes, new projects, agriculture and society", with a speech entitled " The design quality can make a difference ? ".
The slogan "the countryside goes in the City" is the new language of the project area. This is the work that AIAPP made in recent years, including through the seminar series "Landscapes in progress" for Milan Expo 2015".
You will want to put at the center of the design process the soil or agricultural landscape as the protagonist of the transformations and not as a place of "backs" or as expansions of the city.
This new territorial and virtuous process should trigger new ways of planning and study of the area.
The landscapers AIAPP have long been in tune with this new way of working: reconsider the negative pattern of energy-wasteful and expansions of cities spreading from agricultural activities and especially those pre-urban ones, dealing with the theme of the metropolitan suburbs and borders of the city.
All this through an overall strategic vision, which is not limited only to environmental constraints when it exists, but also through new proactive measures that indicate the relationships between soil, soil science, economics, history, culture and mode of agrarian transformation in a 'only qualitative strategy that builds a wire or a continuity for the creation of landscapes of the future.

The proposed approach, more scientifically correct, is that of historical environmental assessment, in  which get the dynamic aspects of the landscape and integrating with attention to historical witness values for the definition of new entries.

Urban redevelopment scope of transformation Ex Annonaria , called the "Cremona City Hub"
Apply for national competition of ideas
Cremona_ December 2011/beginning 2012

The study of architecture and landscape O+A and Ori Arienti was a candidate in the national competition of ideas for the urban redevelopment of the scope of transformation Ex Annonaria called "Cremona City Hub" in association with EISENMAN ARCHITECTS P.C. and DEGLI ESPOSTI ARCHITETTI s.r.l.
The collaboration of the this grouping in the design process has allowed the three professional studies, supplemented by experts as consultants, to confront and bring out their individual knowledge and skills, acquired in important cultural contemporary contexts both design and academic.
The Eisenman Architects studio, directed by Peter Eisenman, world-renowned member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, winner of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, currently a professor at Yale (formerly professor at Cambdrige, Princeton and Harvard), has set itself responsible for planning and overall coordination of the project.
The Degli Espositi Architetti srl studio, which has already collaborated with Peter Eisenman in numerous Italian projects and which is building in Milan, the conversion of one block was the seat of the insurance company Zurich, is composed by Lorenzo Degli Espositi , Paolo Lazza and Stefano Antonelli, who combine their technical and professional skills to their academic work and research at the Polytechnic of Milan. Degli  Degli Espositi Architetti has had the role of supporting Eisenman Architects in the design and coordination of the design and general manager, with the Ori + Arienti studio, the urban design.
The Ori + Arienti studio - Landscape and Architecture - directed by Maurizio Ori and Paola Arienti, considered one of the leading design firms in Cremona, active in the field of landscape architecture and the environment, thanks to its multidisciplinary expertise has a particular experience in the management of complex processes related to the transformation of the territory, as well as participations and victories in major national and international competitions. Ori + Arienti support Degli Espositi Architetti in urban planning and has been placed in charge of the landscape design and environmental sustainability.
The redevelopment proposed of this large "empty" urban was based on the idea of including strategic  extralocal features able to communicate to the whole province, not only with the city: for this reason it was decided to develop the design theme a "technology park" dedicated to sustainable food production, in which develop the research and dissemination for the setup of production systems "self-sufficient" and "self-sustaining".
The idea was to create a strong interconnection between the agricultural branch, the University (Agriculture, Biology, Architecture, etc...) and private companies, in a "pole of advanced services" (built as a residence in the neighborhood) developed in sustainable buildings from the point of view of systems for energy saving and lending provided.

The design concept also responded to the theme of Expo 2015 - "Feeding the planet, energy for life" - and would Cremona equipped with a function that can promote the development of the city and its region in the next years.

SHANGAI EXPO 2010. O+A exposed at the exhibition "High Design - Hig Technology"

From 6th to 13th of October, O+A project for the international competition “Silk Road Map”, awarded the second prize ex aequo, had been exposed at the exhibition “Italian High Design and High Technology”, organized by OICE (a trade association representing Italian engineering, architecture and technical-economic consultancy organizations) inside the World Trade Center of Shanghai, in the context of EXPO 2010.
Here the project had been exposed on a specific panel and inserted, together others awarded ideas, within a large three-dimensional map, measuring over 15 meters in length and representing a symbolic union between Italy and China: from the ancient town of Xi’an, centre of silk production, to Venice, crossing China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Egypt.
The international competition was patronized by OICE inside a marketing strategy about “made in Italy”, to show to the “Chinese Giant” that Italian know-how is not able to produce only fashion or furniture, but also to face decisive challenges of the near future: quality of life, technological innovation, sustainable development.
The project, which springs from these objectives and from the competition’s theme (recovery, reinterpretation, updating and reconfiguration of the collective image of the “Silk Road”) suggests a model of sustainable landscape, based on local specificities and energetic auto-alimentation, where environment, production systems and architecture are conceived as a “unicum”: a “landscape of the future”, able to realize a new equilibrium between man and nature. The project, symbolically placed in Baghdad, consists of a “linear park”, a “paradise regained” where the renewable sources are used to produce hydrogen cleanly and the distribution of energy is managed by an “intelligent” system, able to allocate resources on the basis of effective needs. Finally, the project is completed by the landscape contextualization of a transport infrastructure with low environmental impact  (high speed train).

During all the exhibition, Maurizio Ori had been representing O+A at Shanghai World Trade Center, displaying the project to the visitors, meeting other professionals and participating in conferences and discussions.

Energy for Life"). Maurizio Ori’s intervention was entitled "The design of the landscape as an encounter between protection and development: some case studies for a guide to sustainability" and it focused in particular on the presentation of the experience gained in the context of O + A Study, as examples of a possible conciliation between the development requirements and the landscape-environmental safeguard.

2008 _ "Landscape Lab"
National Architecture Award _ winner of 1st place
FABRIANO_ANCONA

The project for the new Cremona hostel-Camping was awarded with the architecture prize “Laboratorio del paesaggio – progetti di architettura del paesaggio e nel paesaggio” (Landscape laboratory - projects of landscape architecture and in the landscape) organized by the Esino-Frasassi mountain community. According to the motivations of the Jury, chaired by Prof. Toraldo di Francia, the project was awarded "for the quality of the formal intervention, for the functionality and sustainability of the accommodation and the high level of integration of the park in the passage of the river valley. The park design follows the camp system of the Lombardy poplars rows that define the lots of the agricultural valley around the banks of the river Po, mainly transforming themselves into a series of variations of vegetal cultivations, in alternation with the zones with the equipment for sports activities. In this context you can find the hostel structure that marks the entrance of the park to the street, being both a protective screen and a permanent observatory for a vegetal landscape destined to change along with the seasons.

2008 _ "URBAN SPACE AND ITS RELATIONS TO THE LANDSCAPE"
International seminar
KRASNODAR_RUSSIA

The studio O+A has been invited, along with 5+1AA Iquadro Ingegneria and Peia Associati, to submit their project experiences to an international seminar dedicated to the issues of the urban regeneration, which was held in Krasnodar (Ciscaucasian Russia) on May 17th 2008 and organized by the Department of Planning of the Krasnodar Region.
The design of the city and of the landscape means dealing with complex problems and with solutions that are often equally complex. Challenges such as restoring abandoned industrial areas, the redevelopment of the suburbs and the construction of the new ones imply, in fact, a redefinition of the relationship between architecture, environment and landscape. The landscape theme is running together with the environmental theme and the sustainable development. Dealing with these issues involves the need of a multidisciplinary approach and the consequent coordination activities between the specialists in the various disciplines.  During the seminar, O+A presented some experiences in order to exemplify this approach, including two master plans for multifunctional  interventions in  suburban areas of large cities (Milan and Rome) and the project for the recovery of the ex-area of the ILVA in Bagnoli (Naples), prepared for an International Competition under invitation and selected between the 10  admitted to the final stage.
