Green Lake. The Horizon as a Landscape Project

The project arises from a strategy aimed at valorising the surrounding area and proposes the creation of a new part of ‘built-up track’ capable of standing in continuity with the genius loci of Puegnago del Garda.

Starting from the analysis of the morphological and environmental characteristics of the historical core, the intervention reproposes the existing settlement system, declining it according to a courtyard-blocks system that adapt to the local landscape orography. The result is an architectural organism that reinterprets the language of the traditional building in a contemporary key, according to a close dialogue with the materials (mixed stone and brick masonry, dry-stone walls) and chromatisms of the place.

At the same time, the environmental insertion of the built curtain is modulated through the reforestation of the hillside by using autochthonous tree and shrub species that contribute to define an olive garden.
The project lingers on the shape of the built-up area and proposes an integrated vision between built landscape and natural landscape, both at the private domestic scale and at the public urban scale. The spatial devices adopted are roof gardens for body care, squares for sociality and remembrance, widenings for the detection of notable viewpoints, amphitheatres for panoramic observation of the lake. All these spaces are conceived to be connoted by the presence of exotic vegetation, a valid reference to the parks of the villas that characterise Garda coastline.

The intervention is set up as a catalyst for a process of reactivation of the existing village and proposes the creation of a series of ring-shaped routes, thought to create a network of connections in order to integrate nature and art, preserving the road and morphological existing structure, in the direction of a traditional type of accessibility, for a slow mobility.
