New Bologna Central Station
The project provides an opportunity to endow Bologna with a new system of open spaces serving the entire city through the new design of the Central Railway Station.
These spaces are conceived in terms of a “connective tissue” capable of bringing together the different building blocks that make up the plate but also, more generally, the existing city with the new intervention. This connective tissue consists firstly of variously equipped squares, and secondly of green areas. The greenery is configured in “light” terms, tending more toward the garden type than the landscape park type. This is not only because of the geometric conformation of the spaces (recalling the typologies of thecloister and the hortus conclusus) but also for structural reasons.
