Maurizio Ori from O+A Ori Arienti Landscape and Architecture Studio will be participating in an interview organised by EN Space, part of ArchiTextureExpo during the Milan Design Week, joining a group of leading architects and design professionals to discuss the role of systemic design in addressing today’s environmental challenges.
The conversation explores how the materials, the principles of the circular economy and the landscape can be integrated through innovative design approaches to foster the creation of more sustainable and resilient built environment.
The discussion emphasizes that the ongoing climate crisis calls for a greater sense of responsibility across all the sectors. Rather than considering the sustainability as a standalone goal, it presents systemic design as an approach that links the selection of materials, production processes, and circular economy strategies, in order to reduce environmental impact and make the best use of available resources.
A central issue is the problem of raw material waste, particularly in industrial production, where a large portion of the extracted materials is discarded. By rethinking waste as a resource, systemic design creates opportunities to recover, recycle, and reintegrate these materials into new production cycles.
To illustrate these principles, the presentation draws on an ongoing quarry restoration project in which the waste is considered as an integral part of the design process rather than a byproduct to be managed separately. The project demonstrates how landscape restoration can be combined with circular and regenerative strategies and to generate long-term environmental value.

Maurizio Ori from O+A Ori Arienti Landscape and Architecture Studio will be speaking at the Ordine degli Architetti PPC of Brescia as part of the Training Course for Members of Landscape Commissions, where – along with other prominent speakers – he will present some projects related to “The Environmental and Landscape Restoration of Quarries and Landfills: Case Studies and Ongoing Projects.”
The unique “nature” of these places – though different from one another, they are united by the great fragility of the environmental balance in which they are situated – requires proactive urban and landscape planning at the regional level, as well as a design approach that identifies various strategies based on the 3R concept: Remember, Recycle, and Recreate, including innovation in renewable energy.

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, we will be participating in the Training Course for Members of Landscape Commissions organised by Ordine degli Architetti PPC of Brescia, where we will present some of our projects related to “Landscape and Architectural design in areas subject to conservation restrictions and technical and professional experiences within the various landscape commissions”.
Transforming the landscape into areas subject to landscape restrictions requires specific methodologies, tools, and intervention techniques that encompass analysis, design, and the management of complexity.
In this regard, we have developed collaborative workshops with the Superintendent’s Offices and drafted the Landscape Manual as a shared agreement with the community to promote and support landscape conservation.

We are pleased to announce that on Thursday, February 19, 2026, we will be attending the 10th edition of MyPlant&Garden at Rho Fiera Milano, at “My Landscape Area” Hall 08 C40, Landscape Room 1, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., for a talk entitled “A Window on the Landscape. Limone sul Garda. A Parking Lot-Park between Infrastructure and Landscape.”
Together with Studio Ingegneri Associati Fontana & Lotti-Lorenzi, who shared the design concept with us, we present a project that constitutes a strategy for environmental integration along the lakefront between infrastructure and landscape, through the creation of a theme park with underground parking, as well as the redevelopment of the existing parking lot to create a panoramic “terrace” with a Mediterranean garden.

We would like to thank FIAB Presidents (Federazione Italiana Ambiente e Bicicletta) for inviting us to take part in their annual Conference at the Cremona Chamber of Commerce, Sala Maffei. It was an interesting opportunity to present our approach to landscape design as a strategy for cycling and climate resilience.
The landscape strategy must integrate traffic aspects with considerations of the historical and cultural context and the new issues facing urban ecosystems, both in terms of mobility and the use of public space.
This is a cultural shift supported by strategic plans for cycling integrated with mobility, environmental policies, natural drainage systems for sponge cities and urban ecosystem management.

We are pleased to announce that one of our landscape planning and redevelopment projects will be exhibited at the 13th International Landscape Biennial in Barcelona in 2025 from November 17 to 21!
A strategic planning intervention for an in-land area in Tuscany, Radicondoli, covering an area of 13,260 hectares, introduces a system of actions and interventions aimed at arranging, through an integrated design approach, a large-scale planning between new energies and landscape.
A significnt concept that can be replicated through pilot projects, based on a comprehensive landscape-environmental and economic-productive vision.
The project identifies the following goals: a network of scattered hotels, the promotion of light tourism with eco-campsites and farmhouses, the creation of thematic routes (historical-cultural, water, iron, transhumance) and the enhancement of renewable energies and new agricultural crops (agroecology).
A contemporary landscape plan focused on the creation of a nodal energy network based on the geothermal potential of the area.
Geothermal energy, agrivoltaics and the development of new agricultural crops become the economic catalysts for reactivating and revitalising a large part of Italian inland areas.

We are pleased to announce that we are present at the Italian Pavilion in Arsenale, Venezia, for the talk ” OUTCROPS AND CROSSINGS. Earth and water landscapes” organized by AIAPP LAMS and TER with TStudio, promoted by the General Direction for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and Venice Biennial.
We will present a project displayed at the pavilion related to environmental and landscape-architectural restoration on a stretch of the Tuscan coast. Coasts and shorelines are areas of landscape and environmental transition that should be enhanced and protected for their residual “naturalness.”
The project proposes a solution for these dune and wooded areas, encouraging their protection through bathing, biodiversity, and sustainable tourism.

Maurizio Ori from O+A Ori Arienti Landscape and Architecture Studio will be in Piacenza on November 6^th, 2025 at Politecnico di Milano, Manfredi Pavilion, at the Faculty of Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design, for a meeting/lecture on landscape design, which will focus on specific experiences of landscape planning for the protection and enhancement of Po river waterfront, with some considerations on the resources of this particular landscape, with its values and critical issues, aimed at a more sustainable and trans-scalar design.

We are pleased to announce that we are present alongside other leading national and international firms at the VI Pisa Architecture Biennial, which this year is dedicated to the theme of “NATURE”.
The event, curated by Massimo Del Seppia, Chiara Barsotti, Pietro Berti and Andrea Iacomoni, is held throughout the city and is open from 10 October to 16 November 2025.

O+A Ori Arienti Studio presents an urban forestry project to strengthen ecosystem services for the city of Cremona, with the aim of implementing environmental values and ecological connection for the southern agricultural sector of the city through NBS (Nature Based Solutions) techniques.

We are pleased to invite you to Pistoia for the seminar “Another Park in the City”. The topic is “Nature-Based Solutions: Resilience of Anthropogenic Systems,” in which we will participate with a presentation entitled “NBS: Experiences of Urban Forests and Environmental and Landscape Redevelopment” in the city.
This important event, organized by AIAPP TUM, the APPC Order of Pistoia, Coldiretti Pistoia, and the Order of Agronomists and Foresters of Pistoia, is an opportunity to open a discussion on the importance of urban ecosystems.
Cities have to be conceived as ecosystems that encourage and are rich in (BIO)DIVERSITY of the species that “inhabit” them. This factor favors the creation of a habitat that has the ability to resist and adapt to environmental adversities/ongoing climate crises.
Landscape design will have to address these technical specifications in order to design new parks and cities of the future, including the “new” management of rainwater through integrated drainage systems (SuDS).

Maurizio Ori takes part in the ProLab meeting organised by Ceramiche Keope, held in Casalgrande (RE), related to the theme “Architectures in dialogue with Nature”. The intervention aims to deepen this relationship thanks to two projects concerning a pavilion in an industrial context and an industrial plant in a natural context.

Landscape design and planning have a strategic role to play in managing the complexity of new renewable energies and in spreading knowledge of their potential, encouraging new perspectives in the use of agri-environmental systems to manage the current climate crisis.
Ori intervenes with an ongoing realisation on the theme of the insertion of these technological installations in the Italian landscape: “Landscape planning and design of technological systems in the historical-cultural context of the landscape”.

On occasion of “Externa”, the International Exhibition of Outdoor Spaces, O+A Studio participates in the training meeting “Open Air tourism, new ways of experiencing Salento landscape”.
Maurizio Ori presents some professional experiences in which the characters of the place are the founding elements for a landscape design that becomes an ordering element of the transformation processes in coherence with the pre-existing environmental and cultural values.

We are in Novara to share design considerations on the theme “Re-opening Navigli for a new urban landscape”. Organised by Order of Architects PPC of Novara and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, the meeting discusses this important topic as an opportunity to restore importance and dignity to a hydraulic and landscape system that can be source of renewable energy and an important sensor for the management of hydraulic climate crises at the (supra)regional scale.
Lombardy Navigli system as a “hydraulic body” to manage climate crises for a new landscape project.

We have been invited to participate in the initiative “Waiting Spaces – Contribution of Ideas”, promoted by the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators of Piacenza and XNL – Centre for Contemporary Art, to present a project hypothesis on the themes of landscape and natural redevelopment of some marginal areas of the Municipality of Piacenza.
An opportunity to recover residual urban spaces and encourage biodiversity for the contemporary city, through the fusion of nature and man-made, contributing to the regulation of the urban microclimate.
Hypothesis selected by the Jury, in which we propose the transformation of “Canale della Fame”, through the restoring of naturalness and the encouragement of biodiversity as promoters of large-scale ecosystem services.
The proposed intervention identifies the following keywords: naturalness, drainage basin, discovery of new uses, innovation, renewable energy, reuse.
A park that scenically unites Trebbia river and the agricultural landscape from north-west to south. A new seismograph of the city’s ecosystem and hydraulic services, as suggested by the participants in the debate.

O+A Studio takes part in an important study Conference on landscape and agronomic-forestry design as a guarantor of Ecosystem Services in relation to Corporate sustainability.
Thanks to AIAPP TER, the Municipality of Bologna, the Council of the National Order of Agronomists and of Forestry Doctors and the Order of Engineers of Bologna for the very important technical-scientific update and for the invite received.
We have been able to assimilate important experiences regarding the calculation of Ecosystem Services required to counteract climate crises for the sustainable management and planning of cities.
O+A Studio has had the pleasure of presenting the Circular Economy Park for the city of Cremona as a pilot project for a large territory in the southern area of the city, which includes the environmental recovery of a landfill and a woodland that had already been carried out, and landscape management methods for an energy section of the city.

As part of Milano Green Week, Maurizio Ori speaks at the meeting regarding the developments on the important topic of the reopening of Milan’s Navigli, entitled ‘Navigli. Routes of civilisation for a new landscape’.An opportunity to discuss the strategic importance of this intervention, from an environmental and landscape point of view, but above all from the point of view of good management and energy re-use of the precious resource that is water.

On the occasion of Milan Green Week, held in Milan from 26th to 29th September, participation in the Workshop “The action of water. Modelling and managing slow and permeable landscapes”, concerning the virtuous use and management of this precious resource.
In particular, Arch. Ori shares some reflections and design approaches on the importance of saving and correcting the water cycle in new building interventions integrated with the landscape project, with a speech entitled “The water resource: the landscape project as a moment of synthesis for sustainability. On the occasion of the XIV “Landscape Festival. The Masters of Landscapes”, organised by Arketipos, with AIAPP Lombardy, within the Talk “The botanical landscape. The role of botanical gardens in landscape design”, Studio O+A Ori Arienti Studio presents the guidelines and design of the new Botanical Garden of Bergamo.
An interesting and constructive opportunity to discuss the contemporary function of botanical gardens and the new challenges related to the study, experimentation and verification of botanical species following the rise in temperatures.

Participation in the talk “Red of Roses”, an event on landscape and Land management. Will communities that actively promote the growth of environmental and landscape issues be better able to manage the so-called “ecological transition”? In this regard, Maurizio Ori proposes adaptation plans and guidelines, presenting similar initiatives underway in other contexts.
Communities in inland areas must succeed in preparing strategic plans, i.e. intermediate instruments between the urban planning phase and the landscape and/or land transformation project. New agricultural activities, the creation of green areas to mitigate climate crises, the creation of new hospitality systems (widespread hotels, etc.) must be planned and defined in an evolutionary way.

At Milano Rho Exhibition Centre, as part of MyPlant&Garden 2024, Maurizio Ori participates as speaker in the round table “Innovating outdoors: designing quality through the collaboration between landscape architect and plantsman”.
Landscape design requires the collaboration between different figures, including landscape architects, garden designers and agronomists. Climate crises and the resulting complexity require an articulated approach to the transformation and management of open spaces, developed in a key of environmental sustainability, where quality and functionality must be related to the historical and cultural context,
always respecting and enhancing biodiversity.

As part of the InOut – Green Scape event, regarding the theme “The role of landscape as added value in hospitality structures” held at the Rimini Exhibition Centre, Maurizio Ori participates as speaker with a speech entitled “Hospitality and landscape project. Examples in progress”.
The centrality of landscape and outdoor spaces is taking on a decisive role in the hospitality offer a structure is able to provide. It is a plus that has implications for the emotional-perceptual component of the hospitality experience.

Invitation to Pisa Biennial: Tempodacqua, III edition, at Arsenali Repubblicani, in which O+A Ori Arienti Studio takes part with the presentation “Design of an energy and production system. The water cycle for a new Geothermal Park in the landscape”.

Maurizio Ori is a Member of the Scientific Committee at the 53° IFLA International Congress (International Federation of Landscape Architects) “Tasting the Landscape”. He is also Scientific Manager of the session “Connected Landscape” and speaker of the speech “The Landscape Project as a synthesis between environmental sustainability, biodiversity and farming”.

Maurizio Ori is a member of the 4th International Landscape and Garden Review 2013, entitled “Tourism, Landscape, Health: Expo 2015 Planning and Proposals”, held in one of the most famous and fascinating places in Italy, the Auditorium of the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera.
The conference sees the most notable and relevant European personalities from the worlds of culture, academia, entrepreneurship and tourism take turns at the speakers’ table. The aim is to investigate the possibility of sustainable design, not only from an environmental but also from a social and economic point of view, capable of interpreting places with competence and sensitivity, in which transformation projects are in harmony with the history and identity of places. It is on this leading theme that the Conference has been organised, which will start from the illustration of Italian experiences of excellence, up to the global planning of the territory, and sees Expo 2015 as a moment of international cooperation and comparison.

As part of the SUN – 31st International Exhibition of the Exterior, Design, Furnishing, Accessories in Rimini, the 5th edition of the International Workshop “New Gardens for the City Life” is taking place, where Maurizio Ori is a speaker with the speech “The Landscapes of Hospitality in Tuscany: Current Design Experiences”.

“Life 2013 Water Energy and Landscape”, organised by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Superintendence of Architectural Heritage and Landscape of Pisa and Livorno, takes place with the theme “From urban planning to landscape. A return to the politics of good territorial governance”. The meeting, in which Studio O+A is participating, offers an opportunity to address the theme of landscape design in relation to the economy and government of the territory with the direct participation of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage – Superintendence of Pisa and Livorno.

Maurizio Ori takes part in the “Benaco Gardens” Review: III International Review of the Landscape and Garden 2012, the Review “Tourism, Agriculture, Landscape”, promoted by the municipalities of Gardone Riviera, Salò and the municipality of Puegnago, where the themes of peri-urban agriculture connected to the role of the landscape are discussed with experiences from Italy and abroad. The Review focuses attention on “Tourism, Agriculture, Landscape: the city vs. the countryside, architecture vs. nature”, defining development models and ways to support the agricultural sector deriving from a prudent design of open spaces. A valorisation of the role of the landscape in order to increase the competitiveness of typical products and rural tourism as well as a recovery of the architectural heritage of the rural landscape in a general perspective of conservation and valorisation of the landscape to increase the added value of traditional products and to improve the attractiveness of our country’s territory.

On the occasion of the AIAPP Conference “Contemporary Landscapes, new design, agriculture and society”, Maurizio Ori, Landscape Planner and Architect, Vice-President of AIAPP Lombardy, will participate with a speech entitled “Can design quality make a difference?” The aim is to place the soil or agrarian landscape at the centre of the design process as the protagonist of transformations and not as the place of ‘retri’ or city expansions. This new and virtuous territorial process should trigger new methodologies of land planning and study.
The proposed approach, which is scientifically more correct, is that of historical-environmental assessment, in which an attempt is made to grasp the dynamic aspects of the landscape and to insert them with attention to historical-witness values for the definition of new insertions.

Maurizio Ori gives a lecture as part of the MAsp – “The Public Space Project”– a post-graduate master’s degree course open to professionals involved in the process of constructing or reconstructing public space, established in collaboration with the University of Engineering of Pisa. The lecture had as its theme “The landscape project as a reflection on public space”. During the presentation, some projects by Studio O+A. were illustrated, in which the landscape system constitutes the environmental framework and the general strategy within which to place building and territorial transformation interventions.

Maurizio Ori is invited to the “International Landscape Review” held at Villa Alba, in Gardone Riviera (BS), presenting the recent memorandum of understanding between AIAPP and Slow Food and illustrating some of O+A Ori Arienti’s experiences aimed at realising territorial transformation interventions conceived by integrating architecture, landscape and energy production.

O+A Ori Arienti’s project for the “Silk Road Map” competition, which won second place ex aequo, is on display at the “High Design High Technology Italians” Architecture Exhibition, organised by OICE at the World Trade Center in Shanghai, as part of EXPO 2010. O+A’s project, which was inspired by these objectives and by the specific theme of the competition (the actualisation of the imagery linked to the ancient Silk Road), proposes a model of sustainable landscape, based on local specificities and energy self-sufficiency, where environment, production systems and architecture are conceived as an inseparable unicum: a ‘landscape of the future’ capable of configuring a new balance between man and nature. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, Maurizio Ori represented O+A at the World Trade Center in Shanghai, illustrating the project to visitors, meeting with professionals and operators in the sector, and participating in the debates organised on the sidelines of the EXPO.

Maurizio Ori participated as a speaker in the seminar “Expo 2015. Which projects for sustainable landscapes”, organised by the AIAPP Lombardy section and the magazine Paysage, held at the Milan Triennale. The seminar was part of the Green Life initiative, as part of a cycle of three meetings entitled “Landscapes in progress”, dedicated in particular to the search for an approach capable of making marginal, metropolitan and peri-urban contexts ‘sustainable landscapes’, also in relation to the Expo theme (‘Feeding the planet. Energy for life’). Maurizio Ori’s speech, entitled “The landscape project as a meeting between protection and development: some case studies for a guide to sustainability”, focused in particular on the presentation of some experiences gained within the O+A framework as examples of a possible reconciliation between development needs and landscape-environmental protection.

O+A Ori Arienti Studio has been invited, together with 5+1AA, Iquadro Ingegneria and Peia Associati, to present their design experiences at an international seminar dedicated to urban regeneration issues in Krasnodar.
Designing the city and the landscape means tackling complex problems with often equally complex solutions. Challenges such as the reclamation of disused industrial areas, the redevelopment of suburbs and the construction of the new imply in fact a redefinition of the relationship between architecture, environment and landscape. The theme of landscape is accompanied by the theme of environment and sustainable development. Dealing with these issues implies the need for a multidisciplinary approach, and the consequent coordination between specialists from the various disciplines. As part of the seminar, O+A will present two masterplans for multifunctional interventions in peri-urban areas of large metropolitan areas (Milan and Rome) and the project for the recovery of the former ILVA area in Bagnoli (Naples), prepared for an international competition by invitation and selected among the ten admitted to the final phase.

O+A Ori Arienti Studio participates, as part of the DArE04 grouping, in “Ecomondo China 2004”, a collective of Italian companies within IFAT CHINA, an international fair on environmental protection, Shanghai. DArE04 is a well-established group composed of some of the most important and established Italian architects (5+1AA, Lissoni-Peia, Metrogramma), with whom O+A has taken part in numerous national and international competitions. The group’s design approach starts from the need to combine development and respect for the environment, understood in the broadest sense of the term, i.e. as a landscape and ecosystem, but also as a historical, anthropological and social context.
