Visual and Environmental Mitigation A32 Upper Susa Valley
The project addresses the issue of the relationship between infrastructure and context by proposing a unifying intervention that gives the highway the dignity of an architecture “work of art”.
For this purpose, the realization of a reticular shell made of laminated wood, which becomes an integral part of the road infrastructure, is presented. The protective shell, which ideally recalls the structure of a pine cone and its flake coating, also provides support for the installation of screens through which attenuating light pollution and sound-reflecting panels that provide acoustic insulation.
The project also includes a comprehensive landscape and environmental redevelopment program, also thanks to the greening of the retaining walls using climbing species. These interventions are part of a more ambitious project aimed at creating a wider park of alpine gardens, each corresponding to a longitudinal strip and characterized by particular plant themes. The linear park is presented as a program on the basis of which reorganize the spatial arrangement of an area heavily infrastructured and currently connoted as a not permeable result space due to the multiple barriers that prevent its crossing.
