New Lombardy Region Headquarters
Despite the strong contemporaneity of the architectural sign, the proposal for the new Lombardy Region headquarters does not ignore the relationship with the history, the tradition and the peculiar character of the territory. The “soil project” is distinguished in two areas: a “hard” part, markedly artificial, characterized by “rigid” signs and by the prevalence of paved spaces, and a “soft” part, more naturalistic, characterized by wavy lines and the preponderance of vegetation elements. Here there is a symbolic representation of Lombardy landscape, an open-air “atlas” of the regional landscape, known for its richness and variety. Grouped like so many homogeneous “patches” in terms of composition and morphology, the green areas offer a sort of “review” of the vegetation associations characteristic of Lombardy territory, so as to configure different areas, each of which corresponding to the typical phytocoenosis of a specific climate context: the Po plain woodland, the moorland, the lake gardens, the Piedmont and alpine vegetation.
